This was one of the most unusual rendezvous with Sarah Onyango Obama, the mother of Obama senior, the father of U.s president.A unique celebrity indeed, with all this glory and glamor of her grandson now the U.S president ,you would expect to meet some hyper, high caliber lady, but neigh, this lady is the warmest and the most well coming person i have ever seen on planet earth. She radiates love and joy,she is down to earth and laid back with no excesses at all. The journey to kogelo was not all that smooth because the road was still fresh from being done.Earth was being moved from here and there to make at least a rough road leading to Obama's home,a festive mood hanged in the air and was written all over on the people's faces,in fact every time we passed a gathering by the roadside they would wave at us with untold jubilation.Mama Sarah welcomed us with a hearty hug in fact it was like she was expecting a lost son or something,we sat under the sycamore tree as we were served breakfast.......mama Sarah all along is happy and talked through an interpreter about how God has blessed her,Because her grandson is worlds respected leader.Together we went through the families album, she showed us the photos barrack took while she visited Kenya the first time in the 80's and then when she visited with Michelle and then the ones they took when barrack was a senator, indeed barrack loved his Fathers home, she re-counted how barrack wept before the fathers grave when he visited Kenya after the father had died, she said how he longed to meet his father, this time she nearly sobbed but she managed to control herself ,she bubbled back again in her characteristic manner, then our time was up and we had to start our journey back to the city.In me i was satisfied that at least even if i die i have visited this awesome place called Kogelo down in the heart of rural western Kenya. The place where the current U.s president has roots.
